CPR Fundamentals

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) is the cornerstone of basic life support. High-quality CPR is the single most important intervention for survival from sudden cardiac arrest.

The Chain of Survival

The AHA Chain of Survival highlights the critical sequence:

Immediate recognition and activation of emergency response.
Early high-quality CPR (Chest compressions).
Rapid defibrillation (AED).
Basic and advanced emergency medical services.
Advanced life support and post-arrest care.

⚠ Clinical Red Flag

Never pause compressions for more than 10 seconds. Interruptions drastically reduce coronary perfusion pressure and decrease survival chances.

Selected Landmark

Left Anterior Descending (LAD)

Also known as the 'Widowmaker' artery. Supplies blood to the anterior wall of the left ventricle and septum.

Tactical Clinical Pearl

"Occlusion causes massive anterior STEMI (V1-V4). High risk of cardiogenic shock or sudden ventricular fibrillation."
